SECAI project receives award from the „Edge Data Economy“ technology programme“
Shaping sustainability digitally - this is the guiding theme of this year's Days of Digital Technologies (TddT), which will take place from 29 to 30 August 2022 at the Berlin Congress Center bcc. At the two-day congress, the SECAI research project was named one of the winners of the „Edge Data Economy“ funding programme, which was organised by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The research project is dedicated to the development of AI-based heating solutions for private homes, thereby helping to save fossil fuels. The joint project is being led by Strategion GmbH, a spin-off of DFKI, which is one of the partners.
In SECAI (Sustainable heating through Edge-Cloud-based AI systems), the heating requirements of private homes are being analysed using AI based on the previous findings of the ForeSight smart living lighthouse project in order to create optimised heating plans for building complexes and flats that are tailored to the needs of tenants and landlords. To this end, an edge cloud-based AI system for decentralised heating control is being developed that can be installed quickly and cost-effectively in existing buildings using retrofitting.
In the context of the current energy crisis and long-term climate targets, the approach to be researched in SECAI promises great potential for saving heating energy in a resource-saving and cost-effective manner. The technology should be available quickly and can be used at short notice.
The consortium partners of the project are Connectivity Solutions GmbH, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence GmbH (DFKI), the Research Association for Electrical Engineering at ZVEI e.V., Goethe University Frankfurt, GSW Sigmaringen and Strategion GmbH, which is not only a development partner but also the consortium leader and will receive the award today, Monday, 29 August 2022, at the Days of Digital Technologies on behalf of the consortium. In addition, the Federal Association of German
Wohnungs- und Immobilienunternehmen e.V. (GdW), the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) and the wibutler alliance e.V. are already on board as associated project partners. Other interested partners can still join the three-year project after it starts on 1 October 2022.
